Sebra Interior has acquired rights to the copyrighted design classic Juno bed and on 1 September 2016 will relaunch the classic, beautiful bed under the name of Sebra Bed.
The famous Juno bed was designed by the Danish architect Viggo Einfeldt in the years 1942-43. He designed the bed in a timeless and precious design, based on the idea that the bed should be able to grow with the child and be safe.
The bed’s design is extremely unique and distinctive, and was very special for that time, as it focuses on the safety of the child. The beautiful bed soon became very popular and is today, considered to be a Danish design icon.
The Juno bed and Viggo Einfeldt are listed under the category, “Children’s Culture” in the Danish Cultural Canon consisting of 108 works, all representing the essence of Danish heritage, indispensible Danish works of art and Danish design icons.
In Denmark, the Juno bed design classic is also known from a number of family films, where the bed belonged to the protagonist.
All 8 films were recorded in the period from 1953 to 1961 and became part of the Danish cultural heritage in terms of family entertainment.
The design of the Juno bed has remained popular for decades, and the classic design is still as beautiful and contemporary today as when it was designed back in the 1940s.
When looking at the Juno design today, Viggo Einfeldt’s classical architectural training cannot be denied and it is clear that there is a professional behind this product.
“Through the years, several generations have purchased the original Juno bed in new or used condition in Denmark, and generations of children have slept in this bed. Therefore, today’s parents, grandparents and great-grandparents have a very special relationship with this design icon. The heirs to this cultural treasure have chosen to allow Sebra to bring the Juno bed and the Danish design legacy forward and we are very proud and thankful for that”, says founder and owner of Sebra Interiør, Mia Dela.
The rights to the Juno bed were inherited by Marit Fabricius, Viggo Einfeldt’s daughter from her mother, Dagmar Einfeldt in 1993.
Dorthe Lohmann, daughter to Marit Fabricius, says on behalf of her mother: “It is with great pleasure that we have reached an agreement with Sebra. We consider this to be the right company to continue my grandfather’s design and the original Juno bed. Their quality and other products are well suited to the Juno bed and Sebra’s intention with the new bed is to maintain the completely original and unique Juno design , while implementing the current safety requirements”.
The timeless and beautiful design of the original Juno bed that grows with the child - is all expressed in the new, redesigned Juno bed - the Sebra bed.
Therefore, the original design is updated in a number of areas to meet current safety requirements, the European safety standard DS/EN 716 for children’s beds.
The changes have been made by taking into account the design of the bed. Therefore, the bed is made proportionally larger in relation to the original design.
As a result, the current bed lives up to the required standard, by retaining the original appearance and the timeless lines as far as possible.
“We had to e.g. modify the curves at the top of the 4 legs simply in order for the design to be able to meet modern stringent safety requirements. However, the bed’s overall expression and appearance with the classic cot sides and rounded gable ends and the overriding aesthetic design are of course maintained to the greatest possible extent.” says Mia Dela. She adds “However, we have somewhat adapted the functionality of the bed in order to accommodate the current requirements of the parents. The bed base can be raised in the first months and the installation of the cot sides is more user-friendly”.
The Sebra bed is treated with a unique antibacterial, environmentally friendly and non-toxic wood paint to ensure a cleaner indoor environment and to protect the child’s health.
Microbiological silver ions, primarily used in the healthcare sector, break down and prevent micro-organisms from growing and therefore reduce the spread of bacteria.
The wood paint is independently tested in accordance with the restrictive JIS Z 2801 standards in terms of E. coli bacteria.
A significant decline and a reduction of 99.9% in bacterial growth can be seen after 24 hours, compared with untreated products.
Therefore, the product exhibits excellent anti-bacterial properties.
The interior length is of 112.5 cm with a width of 70 cm as a baby bed and as a junior bed it has an internal length of 155 cm.
