The story of the Juno bed that became the Sebra Bed
Sebra has the rights to the Juno bed, originally designed by Viggo Einfeldt in 1942–43. In 2016 the classic, timeless and beautiful bed was relaunched under the name “The Sebra Bed”.

The bed therefore celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2017.

The bed was originally known as “the bed that grows with your child” – a slogan that is indeed true, as it is a functional bed with a pull-out function which allows the bed to be used by a child through several stages of childhood, from baby to junior. This long period of use benefits the child, the family and the environment.

The Sebra Bed, Baby & Jr., comes in two different types of wood and multiple colours, and can be passed down from generation to generation just like the original Juno bed.

Safety was part of the DNA of the Juno bed. Today, that has been passed on to the Sebra Bed
The original Juno bed distinguished itself by being one of the first, if not the first, cot with a focus on your child’s safety. The safety element was part of the bed’s DNA. But although the Juno bed was a good, safe bed which was passed down from generation to generation at the time and has been over the years, Viggo Einfeldt’s original design no longer lives up to today’s strict safety requirements for cots.

Sebra has therefore adapted the Sebra Bed and its functionality somewhat in relation to the original design, both in order to meet the current standards for cots and to accommodate the parents of today.

The Sebra Bed, Baby & Jr. meets the safety requirements of DS/EN 716-1:2017+AC:2019.

A bed for newborns, infants, toddlers and juniors
The many different combinations allow you to constantly find new ways to use the bed, which was one of Viggo Einfeldt’s original ideas behind the Juno bed and therefore also The Sebra Bed.

The piece of furniture comes unassembled, but is easily assembled by following the accompanying instructions, which should be stored for later use.

Stage 1: Newborn/infant
In its first stage, The Sebra bed is assembled so that the base of the bed is raised, making it easier to lift your child out of the bed and put your child into the bed during their first few months. The adjustable base makes it easier to get a good and safe grip when picking up your infant, while also allowing you to better support your infant’s back and neck when placed in bed, because the distance to the bed is lessened – making it safer for your child and better for your back.

The Sebra Bed, Baby & Jr., is intended for a max. weight of 15 kg in the upper base position.

Stage 2 – the child shows signs of being able to crawl or sit
When your child starts to show signs of being able to get into a sitting or crawling position, the base of the bed can be lowered.

The bed’s distinctive and handcrafted cot sides and gables provide safety for your child during its first year of life and ensure that your child does not roll out when it begins to move more, sit or stand upright. The bars of the bed have been cut at the bottom to create a slope, which means that your child cannot get a foothold and climb/fall over the edge of the bed.

The Sebra Bed, Baby & Jr., is intended for a max. weight of 80 kg in the lower base position.

Stage 3 – The toddler: the child shows signs of wanting to climb or has grown big enough to be able to get out of bed unaided
One or both cot sides can be removed when the child grows so big that they can swing their legs out over the bed, are trying to climb out of bed or are just ready for the next step. Many parents try to extend the time with the cot sides a bit, because removal also means less control. But for safety reasons, you should always look at the child and assess where they are, and keep in mind that the sides can always be reinstalled if the time was not right. Most people, however, remove one side when the child is around 1 1/2 years old, while others may wait until their child is 2 1/2 to 3 years old – there is no one correct choice, just common sense. Consider your child and the location of the bed, and then decide what is best for you.

Stage 4 – The child is growing and needs more space
When the child reaches a certain length, it is time to pull the bed out to the junior bed size and remove both cot sides. Again, there is no correct choice, just common sense. Most parents pull the bed out to junior bed size when the child is 3–4 years of age.

Stage 5 – Next child – next generation
At some point, your junior will no longer fit in the bed – The Sebra Bed, Junior & Grow could be their next bed.

Pass on the old Baby & Jr. bed to the next child or the next generation – this benefits the environment and at the same time ensures that the bed’s long design history is continued.

Antibacterial protection
The Sebra Bed, Baby & Jr. is treated with an antibacterial, environmentally friendly and non-toxic varnish, ensuring a cleaner indoor environment and protection of your child’s health. Microbiological silver ions, primarily used in the healthcare sector, break down and prevent micro-organisms from growing and therefore reduce the spread of bacteria. The varnish has been independently tested in accordance with the strict JIS Z 2801 standards, including for E. coli bacteria.

The Sebra Furniture Family – a safe choice
The Sebra Bed, Baby & Jr. matches the other furniture in the Sebra Furniture family, which is characterised by soft, rounded corners and a timeless, classic and Scandinavian appearance – The Sebra Changing Unit, The Sebra Bed Drawer, The Sebra Wardrobe and The Sebra Desk… and not to forget the miniature version, The Sebra Doll’s Bed.

The Sebra Mattress, which comes in two parts, can be purchased separately and in several versions, and the sheet, the bedwetting sheet and the mattress pad with ‘rounded corners’ are also available for purchase.
